Money is a touchy subject. Consider everything you read here "for entertainment purposes" and "not financial advice". Do your own research. Invest what you can afford to lose.

Thing 1 - How to protect yourself from inflation

When I was a kid, I was a billionaire. And so was everybody else. High fives all around the tres comas club 🙏

"Seek wealth, not status." comes to mind.

But enough about me - what do you need for financial independence? And how do you protect those things from inflation?

You need to earn money, save it and invest it.

Inflation affects all of these.

Get more money in

Inflation means everything becomes more expensive.

Companies have higher expenses, so they cut costs. Your job can be the cost they cut.

  1. Be the best at what you do
  2. Find other streams of income

Keep more money

  1. Your money will be worth less.
  2. Your salary won't grow as fast as inflation.

→ You'll be able to afford less than you used to.

Cut the expenses you don't need.

One of the great defenses - if you're worried about inflation - is not to have a lot of silly needs in your life.
- Charlie Munger
If you buy things you do not need, soon you will have to sell things you need.
- Warren Buffett

Invest the money or have it eaten by inflation

Invest in companies that are "immune to inflation". Da heck?

  • Can they raise prices without reducing the demand?
  • Do they need to increase capital to increase earnings?
  • Do they borrow money in a smart way?

You'll want the answers to be YES, NO, YES.

Borrowing money during hyperinflation

Let's say you want to buy a house. You go to the bank and get a 20-year mortgage for 95% of the price of the house. You scrape everything you have for the 5% down payment.

You sign the papers and get the keys. Congrats, you're a homeowner!

You throw a party and meet new neighbors.

The first installment comes and you go hungry for a week to make the payment.

Lucky for you, hyperinflation is in town. The next installment is easier. You don't even feel the one after.

9 months in, you pay the rest of your mortgage, including the early payment penalties, without blinking.

This is, in part, why some people who lived through hyperinflation miss "the good old days".

This is just a snippet of a beast of a topic. Which part do you want covered in more detail?

Thing 3 - 30 stunts in 1 minute

All for a deodorant ad.

It's saying "you can do all this without breaking a sweat".

Must be because all the fires dry it out? 🤪
